Twin Cities Concrete Demolition removes concrete driveways throughout Minneapolis and the Twin Cities metro. Old driveway cracking up, heaving, or just past its life? We tear it out clean, haul everything away, and leave your site ready for the new pour.
A damaged driveway isn't just an eyesore — it's a liability. And a new concrete or asphalt surface can't be properly installed over a bad base. We cut, break, and remove the entire existing slab so your contractor starts with solid ground.
We've removed hundreds of driveways across the metro. We bring the right equipment — concrete saws, skid steers, and dump trailers — and get it done fast. Most residential driveways are finished in a single day. Free estimates on every job.
We haul every piece of concrete off your property and dispose of it properly. No dumpster sitting in your yard. One call, one crew, done.
Every driveway demolition starts with a site walk. We look at the slab thickness, whether there's rebar or wire mesh in the concrete, how accessible the area is for our equipment, and whether any partial cuts are needed to keep an adjacent section intact. Minneapolis driveways that were poured decades ago often have inconsistent thickness — thicker at the apron, thinner in the middle — and knowing that ahead of time helps us bring the right equipment.
Once we're on site and ready to work, we start with a concrete saw if the job calls for a clean cut — for example, if we're only removing half a driveway and the rest stays. The saw scores a straight line so the remaining slab has a clean edge for the new pour to butt up against. After cutting, we use a demolition hammer or a skid steer with a breaker attachment to break the slab into manageable chunks. Most residential concrete comes out in sections of 50–150 lbs, which we load directly into our dump trailer.
Once the concrete is out, we do a final sweep of the area to pick up any leftover chunks, rebar, or aggregate. We can also grade and level the subbase if needed so your new contractor starts with a clean, flat surface. Minnesota's clay-heavy soils often mean the base under an old driveway needs attention — frost heave over the years can shift and undermine the subgrade. If we see obvious base issues during removal, we'll flag them for you so they get addressed before the new concrete goes down.
We haul everything off site in our own dump trailers. There's no dumpster left in your driveway, no debris piled on the lawn, and no scheduling a second trip for hauling. Most residential driveways are completely removed and hauled away in four to six hours. We leave you with an empty, clean site that's ready for whatever comes next.
Most residential concrete driveway removals in Minneapolis fall in the range of $800–$2,500. The biggest variables are the total square footage, the thickness of the concrete, and whether there's steel reinforcement inside the slab. A standard single-car concrete driveway — roughly 10x20 feet — typically runs $800–$1,200. A double-wide or extended driveway at 20x40 feet or larger usually comes in between $1,500 and $2,500 depending on conditions.
Thicker slabs cost more to demo because they take longer to break and produce more material to haul away. A typical residential driveway is 4 inches thick. If yours is 6 inches — common in driveways that were also used as a parking pad for heavy equipment or commercial vehicles — expect to pay toward the higher end of the range. Rebar-reinforced slabs add time too, because each piece of rebar has to be cut before the section can be loaded. Wire mesh is less of an issue but still adds some time.
Accessibility is another cost factor. If your driveway runs along a tight side yard and we can't get a skid steer alongside it, more of the work has to be done with hand tools and a wheelbarrow, which takes longer. Corner lots and properties with open access from the street are the easiest and most affordable to demo. We always walk the site before quoting so the price we give you reflects the actual conditions — not a ballpark based on square footage alone.
For a straight removal of an existing concrete driveway on private property in Minneapolis, no permit is typically required. You're simply taking out what's already there. However, if your project involves any changes to the curb cut — the point where your driveway meets the public street — or if you're widening the driveway apron or changing where it connects to the sidewalk, you will need a Right-of-Way permit from the City of Minneapolis Public Works department.
Minneapolis has specific requirements around driveway widths and curb cut placement, particularly in older neighborhoods where street parking is tight. If your new driveway will be in a different location or a different width than the old one, your concrete contractor will need to pull that permit before the new pour. The demolition itself doesn't trigger the permit — the new construction does. We'll let you know if anything about your project looks like it might require coordination with the city.
For properties in suburban Twin Cities communities like Eden Prairie, Maple Grove, or Burnsville, the rules are similar — removal alone rarely needs a permit, but a new or relocated curb cut typically does. We've worked across the entire metro since 2004 and are familiar with the permitting norms in each city we serve.

Most residential driveway removals in Minneapolis run $800–$2,500 depending on size, thickness, and accessibility. A standard two-car concrete driveway typically lands in the $1,200–$1,800 range. Reinforced concrete, extra-thick slabs, or large commercial lots cost more. We provide free on-site estimates so you get a firm number before any work starts.
Most residential concrete driveway removals are completed in a single day. We bring the right crew, a concrete saw, skid steer, and dump trailer so we can break out the slab and haul it off in one visit. Larger driveways or heavily reinforced slabs may take two days, but that's the exception — not the rule.
In most cases, no permit is required for simply removing an existing concrete driveway in Minneapolis. However, if you are changing the driveway location, width, or curb cut connection to the street, you will likely need a Right-of-Way permit from the City of Minneapolis Public Works department. We can advise you based on your specific project during our site estimate.
We load all broken concrete into our dump trailers and haul it off your property the same day. Concrete is a recyclable material — it gets crushed and repurposed as base fill at concrete recycling facilities in the Twin Cities area. Nothing gets dumped illegally or left on your property.
Yes. Partial driveway removal is common. We use a concrete saw to score a clean line at the point where the old and new concrete will meet, then remove only the section you need taken out. This gives the new pour a straight, clean edge to butt up against and ensures a professional-looking finished result.
We offer same-week scheduling for most driveway removal jobs in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities metro. We respond to all estimate requests the same day. Our hours are Mon–Fri 7AM–6PM and Sat–Sun 8AM–4PM, so we have availability most days of the week — including weekends.
We take care to work within the project area and minimize impact on surrounding grass, garden beds, and landscaping. Our skid steer uses rubber tracks that are significantly gentler on turf than wheeled equipment. Some minor disturbance at the edges is normal, but we leave the site as clean as possible. If you have specific concerns about a nearby garden or fence, let us know during the estimate walk-through.
We serve the full Twin Cities metro for driveway demolition and concrete removal.
