How A Sentence
Started A
Company.

In March of 2019, my painting company died overnight. The world stopped. The phone stopped. The money stopped.

I looked at my wife from across the kitchen and asked her what we were going to do. She didn't give me a business plan. She didn't give me a pep talk. She said five words:

"Can you take out the trash?"

That was the moment. Because in that second I realized — trash doesn't stop. Debris doesn't stop. Pandemic, recession, blizzard, boom — humans are always going to make a mess, and somebody is always going to have to haul it out.

I started with junk removal. A homeowner asked if I could break up his driveway. I said yes before I knew how. The work was brutal, the competition was thin, and the payoff was real. That's how Twin Cities Concrete Demolition was born — not in a boardroom, not on a business plan, but at a kitchen table during the scariest year of my life.

The First Job

Our first real concrete job came from a guy named Bill — a humble, sharp-as-hell sailboat builder adding onto his Minneapolis home.

The number on the proposal was north of $18,000 — and I'd never quoted anything close to it. I sat in the truck before knocking on his door thinking, how am I going to pull this off?

The answer turned out to be simple: one foot in front of the other. The job ran longer than I planned, hit every hiccup you can imagine, and tested everything I had. But I'm stubborn. I don't quit on jobs and I don't quit on people. We finished.

Bill paid us well, shook my hand, and gave us the first proof that this company could actually work.

Over the years we've ripped out slabs that should've been illegal — and we've broken open enough of them to know what's coming before the first hit.

Drew Thomes is the boots-on-ground half of this company. Born and raised on hard work, the kind of farm-kid motor that doesn't quit when the temperature does. Jordan met Drew at a shooting competition in New Ulm, Minnesota — two competitive Midwesterners born one day apart who became best friends before they ever became business partners.

If you've ever been on a Twin Cities Concrete Demolition job site, you've met Drew. He runs the crew, drives the work forward, and refuses to let a job end on anything less than done right. The day we knew this company was built to win was a 90-degree afternoon on a Minneapolis stoop removal — what looked like a 4-hour job turned into 10 hours because there were three stoops stacked on top of each other. Drew never blinked. That's who he is.

That sentence built Twin Cities Concrete Demolition. He started with junk removal, said yes to a driveway breakup before he knew how, and built from there.
